Woman thou art loosed…

A woman loosed is a woman free; a woman lost is a captive of uncertainty.
Yet, Loosed on a world of possibilities, are you lost in probabilities?
Yes loosed from the proverbial chain of traditional roles, have you lost your way to true modernity?
The rise of the woman loosed is a terrifying inevitability under the weight of the lost woman.
Woman thou art loosed… Yes, but tell me art thou lost?

Apartheid suffered stroke, racism a heart attack, why oh why do we keep chauvinism on life support?
Gone is the day a man would not employ a woman for being a woman and now you turn her away because she is younger and most definitely prettier.
Doing to ‘emancipation’ what our backward brothers did to ‘submission’ without the common decency to be apologetic about it!
Born on the front row seat of empowerment you have sought dictatorial dominion.
Woman thou art loosed… Yes, but tell me art thou lost?

Educate me if you will,
Chastise me if you must,
Is a rock not smooth to the touch but deadly to the temple?
Are plants not fragile but survive in the harshest of conditions?
Woman thou art loosed… Yes, but tell me art thou lost?

You are born to procreate, that is fact!
However, what it is you birth is subject to debate.
If you should mother spite and vengeance,
Be prepared for apathy and chaos.
Woman thou art loosed… Yes, but tell me art thou lost?

To those who can cook a meal and land the C.E.O’s office; I am in awe of you.
Care for children and a multi-million dollar account; Kudos to you.
For none is perfect, no not one so choose you will and that is fact!
You can have it all, what ‘it all’ entails is what your eulogy they will read.
Woman thou art loosed… Yes, but tell me art thou lost?

A woman loosed is a woman free; a woman lost is a captive of uncertainty.
Yet, Loosed on a world of possibilities, are you lost in probabilities?

Woman thou art loosed…

  1. The words of Jesus Christ except in a completely different but relevant context.

“The rise of the woman loosed is a terrifying inevitability under the weight of the lost woman.” What a précis of reality. And the rhetorical questions – Gosh. Interesting how the women-kind maintain chauvinism courtesy of attitudes attributable to their new-found liberation even as other stereotypes have gradually fizzled away with time as verse two powerfully points out.

Verse three is a poem all by itself. The much-trumped strength of a woman through life’s travails; the conflict the writer has with her muse, praising her remarkable willpower but admonishing her stubborn streak now that she’s loosed from regressive stances.

Apart from the slightest of errors in S2V4, isn’t it wonderful how the writer makes sure to lay out the chief role of a woman in spite of her elevated status in present society and times? That her subtle arrogance, brought about by her increased influence on day to day activities and the irrevocable right of choice wields defines when and if she prefers to get a child, has obviously resulted in a direct clash with societal norms; thus the all too common crossing of the swords between both sides. Naturally the poet here, in constancy with theme, appears to sides with society, declaiming against the destructive fire in the belly of the styled-up lassie and shrew and urging reason even when inalienable guarantee is assured!

But there’s praise too as verse four reveals. The perfect woman, according to Biblical standards can ably multitask; retaining her lady-like attributes even as she puts in here shift in ensuring the family unit remains strong and keeping her dignity intact throughout. And yea, none is perfect but a good number surely must put wonderful enough effort to keep at this and verily deserve the plaudits the poet has dished out.

The final verse returns us back to the questions, in what I consider sheer skill at summary. The quandary again. Hopefully some reading this will wrack their brains about the exhortative content here.
