NAKED BABIES

Rants!

Naked babies were born naked,

But we raised them to cover their “shame”

Naked babies knew how to smile and to laugh,

But we raised them to scoff and just grin

Naked babies knew to say what they thought,

But we raised them to be politically correct

Naked babies knew how to love,

But we raised them to question real love

Naked babies knew how to be content,

But we raised them to have greed

Naked babies knew they didn’t have to know it all,

But we raised them to be snobby skeptics

Naked babies knew how to have faith,

But we raised them to second guess

Naked babies knew how to follow their instincts,

But we raised them to follow the crowd

Naked babies knew all they needed to know

But we raised them to have information

Naked babies knew to be innocent,

But we raised them to be “not guilty”

Naked babies knew to be open and honest,

But we raised them to get “technical”

Naked babies knew what they needed,

But we raised them to want

Naked babies knew how to listen to their conscience,

But we raised them to follow their ambitions

Naked babies knew how to care for another,

But we raised them to care only for them

Naked babies knew to be silent,

But we raised them to speak

Naked babies knew how to show emotions,

But we raised them to be mature.

Naked babies were real,

But we raised them to be realistic.

    We don’t teach them to be regular, common, normal, .. these not so clean words..huh?

    Come to think about it: Someday I’m thinking of begetting some naked babies and what do I plan to teach them? You can have a second guess!

  4. The recitation Sunday, was typically emphatic, delivered with the somberness required and with a touching tone. It speaks for itself, I think, lost innocence and the haste to teach experience instead of letting natural momentum prevail. The last two lines summarize the poem in entirety!

    “Naked babies were real,

    But we raised them to be realistic.”
